Another mistake about link building I will mention next is the image SEO issue.

In my opinion, all aspects of SEO bring harm when abused.

If possible, you should not leave alt text and anchor text blank. Because both are important and both have SEO value in helping Google understand the context of the article.

While Google is making a lot of effort to better understand images, we can say with certainty that image links are absolutely not bad for SEO if they are used in context with proper alt text.

  1. All links should be nofollow links

I have heard or read about: All links should be tagged as nofollow, and actually I found this quite funny.

But then, when I realized there were people who really believed this and it was no longer ridiculous for the following reason:

Firstly, in fact most links are dofollow. And worldwide, the site’s nofollow links account for only a very small percentage.

We found that websites with natural backlinks have more nofollow links than dofollow links.

Not only that, it seems that websites with spam links have more dofollow links.

Sometimes even 100% websites are dofollow links, and that caught my attention!

And … I gradually discovered that many of them were trying to cover something up.

Such as the example right below:

The cluster below only has blue lines, meaning that the page has only dofollow links. It looks a little too … “perfect” doesn’t it?

But not! It was a fabrication.

Google says that nofollow links are not powerful!

In general, we don’t follow them (nofollow links). This means that Google does not pass PageRank or anchor text on these links.

Basically, the use of nofollow causes us to remove target links from the overall graph of the site.

However, these target pages may still appear in the index if other sites link to them without using nofollow or if the URLs are sent to Google via a Sitemap.

Also, it is important to note that other search engines have different ways of handling nofollow.

If saying all outgoing links should be nofollow, then imagine the next scenario after that?! …

Nofollow links do not carry any value, no authority, no influence.

So, what happens to domains? How will they be assessed?

Right! Then all will have the same quality of links, and will become equal.

However, it does not seem to make sense. Because the Domain Authority (DA) will not exist and it is an important measure in the ranking process.

After all, the fact that 100% of tags are nofollowed is really irrelevant and does not harm the website.

  1. Links are case-sensitive

It is a bit exaggerating to say that capitalization affects SEO because Google has made it clear that capitalization does not affect search results:

In my research on backlinks, I noticed that you have a notion that links from Wikipedia and similarly high authority websites can ensure your site appears in the top rankings.

In fact, it has been a misconception for a long time with Wikipedia links.

Meanwhile, Google always focuses on user experience.

So internal links can help a website tremendously. Typically, growth in rankings and value is sometimes more useful than external links.

And according to the above, it is wrong to assume that external links are more important than mistakes. Because Google uses a lot of ranking signals and links are just one of them.
