According to the latest appearances, Reels feature on Instagram for its platform, which is considered a move that Facebook wants to prevent the expansion of the other social networking platform. Previously, Instagram was very successful in bringing Story up on its platform to compete directly with Snapchat. Let’s learn about the new features of Reels that will be applied by Instagram to see what is different from TikTok.
Reels feature on Instagram to minimize the influence of TikTok?
As you can see in the video introducing this feature, Reels will allow users to create short videos that can be shared and remixed – just like TikTok did and it was extremely successfully. Those videos may include music, using Facebook’s extensive music library, while Reels also includes a range of creative editing options, like variable playback speed and “ghosts” that allow people to use to create transition effects more seamlessly.

This new Reels feature will be tested in the Brazilian market and will be available in the Camera and Story section. However, Instagram will find a way to highlight Reels content in the new “Top Reels” section of the Discover section in the social media search bar.
This is considered a perfect copy that Instagram made with rival app from China. Instagram’s creative director Robby Stein also told TechCrunch: “I think about Musically before TikTok and TikTok deserve a lot of praise for spreading this format.”

With this statement, the Reels feature of Instagram is quibbling for its blatant copying. Its creative director dragged Musically in to ease his copy with the TikTok platform. Regardless, TikTok’s copy of Instagram, has been active for months – Facebook is clearly taking TikTok’s rise seriously and is taking steps to deny it.
Before Reels, Facebook also copied features from rival brands
After Facebook surpassed Snapchat with its own copy, all social apps started to copy others in an effort to fight competition. Initially, it was surprising to see Facebook blatantly dismiss the idea of another application, but since then, we have seen many other platforms copy each other. After Instagram Stories, copying has become a more feasible, even acceptable strategy in this area.
Facebook has learned how to use its global, large scale to facilitate such conditions – its main strategy is to create alternative applications or functions, then launch them in areas where the app is located. This upward application cannot hold yet. If Facebook can get involved first, it could disable their potential and allow Facebook to maintain its position by launching new features that appear to be industry-leading.
Facebook has also copied a bunch of other previous features like: Poke (2012), Slingshot (2014), Lifestage (2016) and Lasso (2018).
